1999
LRI researchers William Mackie, PhD and Gary Cabe established the company upon recognizing the increasing demand for technologically sophisticated electron emission devices. They set up shop in an outbuilding used to process honey produced by Dr. Mackie’s apiary.
Driven by increasing demand from industrial, governmental, and academic customers, APT moved to its current 10,000-square-foot manufacturing facility.
APT acquired its boride line from FEI Company, significantly expanding the business.
Recognizing the value of APT’s technology and manufacturing capabilities, Hitachi High-Technologies acquired APT.
APT expanded to Hillsboro, Oregon, with APT Labs, a 10,000-square-foot facility dedicated exclusively to research and new product development.
