Refractory Metal Materials
Tungsten:
Applied Physics Technologies specializes in float zone refining of refractory metals, transition metal carbides, LaB6 and CeBix™. We have extensive facilities for growing single crystal rods of these materials. APTech also centerless grinds and in some cases electrochemically etches rods to exacting dimensional specifications.
Applied Physics Technologies offers both single crystal tungsten wire and single crystal tungsten rod. Diameters range from 0.12 mm (etched wire) to 2.5 mm (as-refined rods). Orientations offered include (100), (111), (210) and (310).
Single crystal tungsten wire is zone refined and axially oriented to the specified crystal plane within 2°. Metal impurities are less than 30 parts per million by weight. Standard wire sizes are centerless ground, electrochemically etched to the specified diameter, +/- .0003", and then cut to the specified length +/- 5%.

Other Refractory Metals:
APTech has an inventory of seed crystals of several other refractory metals. Mo, Pt, Ir, Re, Ta, and other custom single-crystal refractory materials are usually sold as-refined; ~1-mm diameter rods. Lead times vary depending on stock on hand.
